Why Tongkat Ali appears in men’s formulas

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is traditionally used in Southeast Asia and has been studied in men for several outcomes related to stress, hormones and sexual health. The human literature is real but heterogeneous, and study results cannot be transferred automatically across extracts and doses.

HorseWood’s published label description

A HorseWood formula page available during this research listed 10 mg of a 100:1 Tongkat Ali extract and described it as roughly 1,000 mg dry-root equivalent per two-capsule serving. That equivalence does not tell us the concentration of a specific active compound such as eurycomanone.

Questions that improve a comparison

  • What extract is used?
  • Is it standardized?
  • What amount of extract—not raw-root equivalent—is in the serving?
  • Were human studies conducted on a comparable preparation?
  • Does the finished product have its own study?
